A Bright Future For Bay Area Baseball - Chris McCully, Bright House Sports Network

Despite the disappointment of not bringing home a state title on the baseball diamond in 2010, high school baseball fans can already start looking forward to 2011. With no shortage of talent, next spring could be the first time since 2001 that the Bay area brings home multiple championships.

Many in the Bay area might have gotten their first exposure to Shorecrest Prep during their magical run to the 2A State Championship this year. But this was no fluke - if anyone knows how to coach, it's Chargers head man Don Reed.

The all-time winningest coach in Cape Cod League history has taken his experience with future major leaguers in a wood bat league, and translated it excellently to the prep level.

The 2010 state runner-up team had just one senior, P/2B Tyler Larson. An excellent sophomore class accounted for 46 percent of the team's hits and 53 percent of their RBIs. C/P Marc Brakeman was one of the most dominating pitchers in Pinellas County - and by 2012 when he's a senior, he'll have six years of varsity experience.

Another team to watch for in Pinellas County is Dunedin. The Falcons, 5A State Champions in 2008, look primed to succeed in 2011.

Behind the trio of Casey Turgeon, Mike Clarkson and Colyn O'Connell this team has tons of big-game experience. Tom Hilbert has an excellent track record of success, advancing to the postseason in 11 of the last 12 seasons.

One of the most exciting stories in Hillsborough County this year was Jim Macaluso and the King Lions. Coach Mac made his first Final Four in his 35 years as head coach, but it may not be his last.

They'll have some key players to replace: namely captains Josciel Veras and Taylor Freeman. But several underclassmen emerged as possible stars. Devin Smith had some memorable pitching performances, winning 3 games in the postseason, including a Regional Final win over Seminole. CF Javaris Reynolds led the Lions in HR (4) and RBI (22).

The Alonso Ravens have made themselves into easily one of the top public school programs in the Bay area. They had a senior-laden team this year, one that has really transformed their program into a perennial contender, but the cupboard will not be bare for Landy Faedo next year.

P/OF Jose Fernandez will continue the streak of Division-I pitchers to come out of Alonso; that is unless he's a 1st-round draft pick in the 2011 MLB Draft. Fellow underclassmen Matt Brandy, Chris Mejia and Chris Chism will have to take their game to the next level next year as well.

We end with one of the most obvious: the Jesuit Tigers. Richie Warren led them to their first title game appearance since 2000, after losing 7 starters from their nationally-ranked 2009 squad.

8 of their 9 starters in this year's title game were seniors, but if there's anything we know about Jesuit, it's that they reload.

Lance McCullers, seemingly already on a path to stardom, will have another year of experience under his belt. He's already ranked the 2nd-best sophomore in the nation, and could end up being one of the most dominant high school pitchers to ever come out of the Bay area.

They have another potential star on the mound in Spencer Trayner. In his freshman season, he allowed just 2 ER in 19.2 IP, striking out 24 batters.
